• He Doesn’t Speak For Me

    September 26, 2015

I have to confess something. I am a devout Catholic. I recognize the papacy as the spiritual office that heads the Church I love. Most times, I also admire and respect the men who occupy that position. It is an office of grave responsibility and sacrifice. Whether they are good and saintly, like Benedict, or righteous and strong like John Paul II, they have all always had my respect.

But, I have to admit that from the first moment I laid eyes on the current occupant, Pope Francis, I have had very serious reservations about his fitness for the position. A child of his upbringing, he is a South American socialist, and, like the current placeholder in our own White House, he can only spout what he has been taught and groomed to repeat.

Faithful and believing Catholics do not worship the environment any more than they worship the concept of “income equality,” and other such Marxist pillars of belief. But, sadly, what we have heard from Pope Francis since his elevation to the Chair of St. Peter, is nothing less than textbook Marxist socialism.

I have been a Catholic most of my life. I converted from Mormonism as a teenager, and have always believed it was where I was supposed to be, even when I was “lapsed,” the Church’s term for Catholics who believe but don’t practice. Being back in Communion since the early Seventies, religious experiences varying widely, about ten years ago I found the Byzantine Rite of the Catholic Church, and called it “home at last.” I have been there ever since.

Please believe me when I tell you that what Francis is expounding in his speeches is NOT Catholic doctrine, no matter how much he wishes it were so. It is his personal belief (obviously propped up by the leftist sycophants in the College of Cardinals who saw to it that he was elected). His authority in this matter can only be that, and is not binding on any Catholic. He can preach about it all he likes, but that does not make it Catholic Doctrine.

He does not speak for me, any more than he speaks for any faithful Catholic, and he does NOT reflect my own beliefs. In matters such as he expounds, I have to say that I have to politely disagree. I can only pray that the light of the Holy Spirit enlightens him and he has an earthly opportunity to reverse his problematic beliefs in “climate change” and “income equality,” among other things.

(Interestingly, in his address to the joint Houses of Congress on Friday, he did not mention Jesus Christ even one time.)

  • Hopeychangey

    September 25, 2015

It’s a fact that there has never been a time in the history of the world when  news gets out and gets spread faster than it does today, for all the obvious reasons you already know. Nowadays, we should add this consideration to the way we think about any national and international events.

More people know more about what’s going on around them than ever before (and, on the other side, there are probably more people knowing LESS about anything than every before, as well).

Unfortunately, thanks to the efforts of leftists who refuse to allow real values, morals, and politeness to be taught in public schools, we are faced with a nation of government-educated people who have no concept of Right or Wrong (as it applies to others), a simplistic belief in the leftist Holy Grail of “fairness,” of decency or degeneracy, or of truth and falsehood, who believe that they are entitled to the fruits of the labor of others because they have been taught that they are, regardless of the truth.

Without God in our daily life, it becomes just existence. With no morality, least of all, the kind called for in the Ten Commandments, we become a nation of undisciplined and selfish pleasure-seekers, people who can’t be bothered with kindness or charity, who believe that signing up for welfare or grant handouts of whatever kind can be a career choice. The apparent main focus of the daily life of a young person is “connecting,” a new word for finding a sexual partner for the night. Unborn babies are slaughtered because of their inconvenient existence, their body parts removed while their hearts still beat and sold off to the highest bidders, and these things are called part of “life.”

In such an environment, it is easy for ignorant people to be led astray by plausible liars. Unaware because they are taught so, that there is REAL TRUTH, the victims of these plausible liars fall for any lies, and find their lives losing meaning by the day, but thinking that being “cool” or “hip” will fix all that. Nothing is important but their individual comfort.

Unfortunately, this also means that when a smooth-talking liar comes along, he will be able to convince large numbers to follow him. The current trend of referring to President Barack Hussein Obama as “The One,” or “messiah,” are simply symptoms of the unknown hunger in the hearts of sheep without a shepherd, whose souls long for the REAL Messiah, but who know Him not. But most of them have already thrown out the REAL Messiah, and have chosen to follow the fake.

Empty promises are simply that: empty. It’s not difficult to promise anything. The difficulty lies in keeping those promises. Unfortunately, the people who have been lied to still retain enough understanding to believe that someone who promises us something is going to keep the promise, while the liars just add lie to lie without the slightest moral qualm.

A false messiah promises “hope” and “change,” and more of the same. For a lot of those who believe the change they hope for will be that they will be suddenly thrust into the ascendancy above others, placed into positions of power and privelege. They hope the change will mean no more debt or work for them. They believe they will become the elite, while those whom they blamed for their problems will suddenly become the “underclass,” to be treated with disdain and contempt. Will these changes materialize? Unfortunately, even a pale version will not only not be probable, but not possible this side of the grave.

Many times throughout history people have tried to pass themselves off as the hope of their nations, or the long-awaited One who would change the world for the better and bring the Utopian completion of all mundane life. But, unfortunately, these charlatans have presented themselves to people who have stopped believing in the REAL Messiah, whose Return the real world still awaits. If the people are tired enough of waiting, they will settle for a plausible substitute to acclaim; one who promises “hope,” and “change.”

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. – 2 Chronicles 7:14(NIV)

I can’t speak for God beyond what we have all been required to do, but I believe that this past six and a half years is a chastisement–not necessarily THE Chastisement–and that He is in effect telling us that we have not only not done what we are required to do as believers, but that we simply haven’t repented.

Prayer is always a good thing. But a lot of times, people pray and pray, and wonder why their prayers haven’t been answered, and the answer is simple, but not simplistic. The Lord tells us that the prayers of a righteous man “availeth much.” The operative word in that phrase is “righteous,” and it means “repentant.” Prayer isn’t much good if we don’t repent while we’re at it.

As long as America is going to continue slaughtering its posterity and teaching its children how to have illicit sex (among other things), we are not going to see much happening on the Spiritual Warfare front. We wouldn’t send our soldiers into battle without arming them, and we shouldn’t expect to go to war against the evil one without at least the Breastplate of Righteousness. We are a nation designed for a praying people. Without that, the country simply cannot “work.”

Repentance is a painful process, but it is absolutely necessary for our Salvation. Not just “confession,” but real, life-changing sorrow for past wickednesses and a strong and determined desire not to return to those ways of life and behavior. But if we want our prayers to be effective and move the battle forward, we must be armed with the right weapons. The Breastplate of Righteousness “extinguishes the firey darts” (temptation and accusation, for example) of the evil one. Let’s get suited up, get on our knees in deep repentance, and get into the battle. There is a war ahead, and we need to be prepared for it in all ways.

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the LORD’S people. (NIV)

1 Sam 17:47 (NKJ) [David, speaking to Goliath] “Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’S, and He will give you into our hands.”

Deut 20:3-4 (NIV) …”Hear, O Israel, today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be faint-hearted or afraid; do not be terrified or give way to panic before them. For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”

Ps 18:32-35 (NIV) It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great.

Zec 4:6 (NIV) ”‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.”

If there is one thing I know, it’s this: God knows how this is going to turn out. Willingly or unwillingly, Americans will be repenting or they will continue to lose freedoms until they are no longer even American, no longer free.

What must our children think of the mess we are leaving them?

  • Itchy Is As Itchy Does

    August 12, 2015

The old Legion of Decency list had listings for movie ratings from “A” (no objectionable content) through “B” (Older kids and grownups), and “C” (Some objectionable content. Not recommended) and “D” (Condemned. Not suitable for any audicence). Families who had this list in place carefully consulted it before seeing any movie.

Even today, although the Legion is no more, little messages pop up on videos and television to remind us that what we are about to see is not fit for children and other sensitive individuals. Movies are sorted according to violence, language, and sexual content in order to protect children from the obvious evil that these things contain. (Moot questions follow: Why should we have to warn people against evil in a movie? Why do we have movies that contain evil in the first place? If movies are for entertainment, why put blood, evil, and ugliness in them? And, if there wasn’t an itch for evil in humans, why are some of today’s movies so AWFUL??)

We are taught what is illustrated so clearly in the Bible and other religious writings: Human beings are born with an itch towards evil. Even primitive cultures understand this, and have strict moral laws that carry heavy penalties if broken. Without proper care, teaching, and molding, we grow up to be amoral and perverse. Religious training teaches us that this itch can be mastered with diligence, but that it must be caught at an early age. Starry-eyed liberals and their followers, however, continually maintain that human nature is already “good” and perfectible without spiritual guidance, and it is only circumstances or bad influences that make these “good” people do bad things.

Consider the ghastly spectacles of children killing younger children for sport. The young killers don’t really understand that their victims will not get up again to “appear in the next movie,” they understand their actions well enough to finish the job. Just because juvenile murderers don’t really comprehend the meaning and ramifications of the evil acts they do doesn’t mean the acts themselves are not evil.

Or, if evil is what people want, how about aborting babies and selling their little corpses off piecemeal to the highest bidders, for “scientific research?” And the abortionists do realize they are killing children (“It’s another boy!”), but choose to ignore the utter evil of the deed, and focus on the money.

In some states, parents are forbidden by law to discipline their children in ways meaningful enough to the child to train them away from potentially evil behavior, a classic example of childless do-gooders meddling in something about which they know absolutely nothing. In the same school, perhaps, a jaded teacher is showing sex techniques to second graders and encouraging them to experiment on each other. And, a parent whose hands are tied is not going to be effective in keeping his child from the destructive and evil behaviors that lurk in the minds of every human being. Even wild animals, understanding the importance of obedience, punish their young with painful discipline, but American parents are forbidden to do so.

Witness, too, the recent mandate from Washington that all Catholic and Christian institutions provide insurance that offers free abortion and contraception to patients and employees. Somehow, the bureaucrats got the idea they could just ignore the sanctity of life, as well as sexuality. I choose to call this move “evil.”

If, as many believe, there is no absolute good or bad, where does evil come from? Where does good come from? Why are we so easily tempted to evil and why is good so hard to achieve? As one who is a firm believer in the Absolute Good, I know exactly how easily we can be tempted to evil. Evil isn’t just about bad movies, or pornography, or child abuse. It is a streak in all of us that must be suppressed in a civil society.

We have learned, with varying degrees of success through the centuries, to deal with evil as best we know how, and the only successes we can count are those that rely on Judeo-Christian moral principles, well-taught. Hearts are fertile for love and hate, and as civilized humans on this earth, we must reach out for the civilizing love and eschew the itch for evil that lurks so shallowly under the surface of each of our hearts.

I fear to contemplate what humans would be like without God, without the REAL Grace that He provides to us for the taking, and the Love that is stronger than death.

  • No “Maybe” About It

    July 26, 2015

Why is it so hard for leftists to understand a “Right-wing Christian” stand regarding Life? It’s fairly straightforward: Innocent life = good, to be protected. Convicted murderer = evil, remove from society. Seems like the Lefties have it backwards. They want to kill the babies and helpless and protect the murderers on death row. Did I leave anything out? I told you it was straightforward, so, what’s to quibble?

It’s obvious from their rhetoric that Lefties don’t take the time to look any deeper into the mindset of Christians or those pro-life people on the Right than the superficial observation of the apparent dichotomy in the Christian/Right stand. And it’s a virtual certainty that they probably haven’t read much more of the Bible than Genesis 1:1.

But, since Leftists believe that Christians are mentally defective, it’s no surprise that they don’t delve any deeper than they do into Christian beliefs and the Bible. It is sufficient, they believe, to skim, scan, and give a quick once-over to what makes Christians believe that innocent life is sacred. That’s why they always get it wrong.

And, we know more about them and the way they think than they do about us, because unlike them, we are interested in what makes our attackers tick. They couldn’t care less about why we are like we are. The important thing is that we ARE, and we’re opposed to them. That’s all they need to know.

We read their press releases, we are familiar with their manifestoes and their mindset, because they dominate the airwaves, the print press, and university professorships. We are exposed to their propaganda on a daily basis, while they seldom give the things we believe in a thought, beyond scoffing at it and ridiculing it. They are sure that they know all that is necessary about us to prove that we are all a bunch of “poorly-educated and easily-led” trailer-park knuckle-draggers. That kind of belief doesn’t need more than a superficial perusal to inform them that people who believe in the sanctity of innocent life are deranged, ignorant fools.

The Left’s favorite question regarding the value of innocent life is, “How can you Christian zealots claim to be pro-life, yet be so determined to execute criminals on death row? And, how can you be pro-war?”

To a Christian, such a question is simplistic and sophomoric. We have studied this question again and again since grade school catechism classes. If we must quantify, just how hard is it for people to tell the difference between the value of an innocent life and the life of a sociopath?

Can the Left honestly say they are equal? There is no “equivalent life” in the Bible, which they seem to think contains the concept, more evidence of their unfamiliarity with the Book. Most people with brains stop short of calling Christians to account on the basis of the very Book that the majority of believing Christians often know from front to back. Dumb move by the Leftists. In their condescending hubris, they seem to have some kind of idea that Christians must have missed the part in the Bible about “all human life” being equal in value.

But the fact is that the Bible repeatedly comments on the difference in value between the lives of the innocent and those of the murderous guilty. Jesus knows the difference, so why is it so hard for the Leftists? In their confusion, they demonstrate, write, and complain. They have “teach-ins,” they do workshops, demonstrate against “the Man,” and rest in the assurance that their opinion is the only right one.

The Bible tells Christians that God knows what to do with people like murderers, despots, terrorists, and the unregenerate evildoer. A just war simply helps such killers come to that judgment a little sooner than they might otherwise.

Leftists are not only ignorant about the morality of innocent life, but invincibly so. They have taken up their stand on the side of preserving the life of death row criminals, and firmly against preserving the lives of countless unborn babies in danger of abortion. They appear convinced that this proves how compassionate and loving they are. It doesn’t matter that they face off against the innocent life in the womb. If, as they say, all life is equal, then they should be in the front lines fighting against the evil of abortion, as well as lighting their candles in the wind for criminals on their way to the death chamber.

(“Population control” is not even a worthwhile argument, since it is much too easy to disprove. They should be ashamed to trot this sorry thing out, and “a woman’s right to choose” is another straw dog, used willy-nilly to illustrate their deep compassion. Never mind that nobody asked that butchered baby what IT thought of overpopulation…)

The Left firmly believes that there are no moral absolutes in society. What’s wrong for you may be right for me. Your murder of me could be a “loving” act. The only absolute in their mindset is that there are no absolutes. They rationalize and equivocate, and can’t even say a firm “Yes,” or “No,” without a string of qualifiers and footnotes. Bill Clinton illustrated this perfectly in his Grand Jury testimony, when he boldly and without embarrassment pronounced, “It depends on what the meaning of ‘IS’ is.” Unable to even define a simple preposition, they call their waffling and equivocation “reasonable,” and “just,” when the truth is, they are simply afraid to take a principled stand.

Life is one of those topics that people are very seldom undecided on. Today’s technology shows us unborn babies at younger and younger ages, sucking their thumbs, having hiccups when they are two inches long, having brain waves and heartbeats, and feeling pain at extremely early ages. A 22-week-old baby is being rescued by desperate efforts in the nursery, while just down the hall, another child of the same age is being torn limb from limb in its mother’s womb, so it can be sold off piecemeal on the “fetal tissue” market. The “deciding factor between the two babies is nothing more than convenience or the child’s “wantednes.”

Abortion, to a Leftist, is not only an acceptable activity, but next to the concept of “fairness” is the Holy Grail of Leftist belief. These are the same people who will stand in the rain and the dark outside the penitentiary to show their solidarity with a serial murderer/rapist who is going to get his life judged that very night. At least, this guilty man had a life, which is much more than can be said for the 55,000,000 plus babies slaughtered since Roe v. Wade.

Moral equivalency is the left’s long suit. But when it comes to abortion, there is no doubt about where they stand: Always on the side of death. No “maybe” about it.

  • Pondering The Stupidity

    June 21, 2015

If you are anything like me, you are wracking your brains trying to figure out what the hell is happening to your country, what to do, why it’s happening, how to turn it around, and various and sundry other quandaries. I am praying these days a few really WISE heads who can come up with workable solutions. I don’t even care if I die before the solutions are fully implemented.

I have a lot of questions for God, too. And, if anybody has a right to be offended by the deliberate hate and godlessness taking over the country these days, it’s God the Father.

There are a few things I believe have brought these events down on our heads, and they are simple and fundamental:

    1. We, as a nation, long ago turned our backs on God. We deliberately and defiantly mock and satirize Him, and refuse to acknowledge His role in the creation of this country, let alone everything else that exists. Witness the democrat convention in Charlotte a couple of years ago, when the simple proposal to replace what had been removed from the democrat platform (the references to God) was shouted down, and booed, not just once, but three times. Spitting in God’s eye might not be a very good idea. To think this kind of defiance in a previously-believing nation is going to go without consequences is stupid. The Bible says, “It is a fearsome thing to fall into the hands of the Living God.”

    2. We have been slaughtering our posterity with a grim determination for the last forty years, at least. Little babies have been dismembered, poisoned, decapitated, and otherwise murdered in heinous ways because they existed inconveniently for us and our lifestyles. If there is one thing God HATES, it’s the shedding of innocent blood. I wonder how long we thought we could keep it up without the consequences coming home. When life becomes disposable, everything else loses its value, as well.

    3. We have become incredibly SOFT and effeminate as a nation. I am ashamed to think of the young men and women going to war to die for people who couldn’t care less. How dare we ask them to serve and die, when we can’t put down our iPhones for a minute to even chat with them when they are home? We remove them from their families, then allow the government to step in and perform the role of father to their families. Excuse me?? What the hell are we thinking here?

    4. We have allowed criminals, thugs, and elitists to weasel their way into our elected offices. We have election fraud and crime that would stop the heart of Castro or Putin. We elect them to separate us from the country, and they are always only too happy to oblige. Where once, the government was in place to serve us, we are now slaves of the government elites. Another double term of leftist aggression against the middle class, eight more years of their stealing our lives is not going to leave much of the America we grew up in, and even less to leave to our children and grandchildren. If you have even a shred of faith in God, I urge you to pray. WEAPONIZE your prayer time.

    5. The most recent big question that crossed my mind is directed at the government elites: “Why do you hate us taxpayers so much, when we are the ones who made you all RICH??” If they don’t hate us, they need to prove it, and very soon, or the wondrous goose that laid the golden eggs will be dead on the nest, and no one will notice but us, her orphaned goslings.

  • Mad At God

    June 18, 2015

LOL! There are times when I read news articles online, and I think, “Man, I couldn’t make this stuff up on LSD!” Leftists are funny when they think they are cornered. They resort to name-calling, yelling, arm-waving, finger-pointing, and sometimes even slobbering (I’m sure this is unintentional. Isn’t it??). At any rate, when we give them enough room, they generally show us their true colors.

They love to hate God, and show their hatred by acting out like bratty pre-schoolers. Now, God is big-hearted enough to love them in spite of their tantrums. I’m sure He’s heard worse from worse people down through the ages. Having a few Americans who have had wonderful lives in the Land of The Free and the Home of the Brave, blessed by the same God they are showering with hate, start ranting about how “insignificant” God is to them isn’t going to make Him zot them (although, I’m not going to rule it out…). One of the things they like to do is destroy Bibles, like that is going to hurt God physically, or force Him to retaliate, or something. I could never figure this one out.

As a Bible-believing Catholic, I am here to tell these misinformed people that although the Bible contains the Word of God, it remains just a book — one that we revere because of its contents, but it is still only paper, glue, and ink. Destroying the container in this case does not destroy the contents, no matter how mad at Him we are when we do it. But to make a big show of ripping it up is akin to teasing a bear.

Threatening to offend God Almighty with one’s juvenile behavior only exposes that behavior. God is still loving these silly people, even while they moon Him and call Him names. God didn’t create anyone to go to hell, and we only go there by our own deliberate choices. So, these people aren’t doing anything to God but making Him sad that they rejected His message and His unconditional love. But they aren’t the first to do these kinds of things, and they surely won’t be the last.

If I were them, I’d be just a bit nervous, and not want to be standing all alone, holding a 9-iron out on the fairway some Easter Sunday morning. (If you get my drift…)

  • Finding Oneself

    June 9, 2015

“So, I figured out what’s behind the “trans-whatevers.”

This began an interesting discussion, but the upshot was that self-mutilation is the same, whether one chooses to tattoo and pierce one’s body until no space remains on the epidermis, or to try to add or subtract body parts not included in the genetic makeup. Body-hatred is a cruel mental affliction, and people susceptible to it are to be helped and pitied.

When a culture removes God from the equation, it opens itself to a whole new list of manifestations of hatred for Him, and for humanity. Throwing out God deprives creation–and our place in it–of meaning. People hate their bodies because they don’t recognize why they hate them. They don’t realize how beautiful they really are.

Putting piercers/cutters in the same “class” as “transgenders” is the next logical step, but the folks who want to add/subtract body parts are not going to tolerate being lumped in with “freaks” and other mutilators. For a tiny minority of the population to force a whole country to not just accept but actively support a manifestation of utter misanthropy takes an acquiescent population brainwashed and defeated, and far from any understanding of God the Creator.

Why is it that the tendency to want to change one’s sex (GENDER is a grammatical term referring to nouns and pronouns. SEX is genetic and set in stone) is almost always encouraged and supported by people who have not, and probably will never have, the same procedure? Changing one’s sexual identification does not change one’s sex. Bruce Jenner will always have the Y chromosome, no matter how many female hormones he takes, clothes he wears, or the extent of his surgical mutilation. Like gay “marriage,” you can call it sex “reassignment” all you want, but it still remains just sadistic/masochistic imitation of the real thing. Our place in the universe is not determined by us, any more than our sexual identity or our eye color. Any attempts to change either will result in total and abject failure.

So, all you gender-benders out there, save your money for a few trips around the world, or something. No matter what you do, you will always be what you were born to be, nothing more, nothing less. Dressing, taking hormones, and dating others of the same sex is merely homosexuality. It changes NOTHING. Putting lipstick on a pig doesn’t change the pig. Having sexually-mutilating surgery does not change your sex, and you know it. Find God and find your real self. Save your (more likely the taxpayers’) money for something you will never regret.

  • Martyrs

    March 1, 2015

    Coptic Icon of 21 Martyrs

On the surface, the slaughter of so many Christians in the Middle East is a staggering blow to the West. The fact that nothing gets done about it by any of the Western countries is confusing. Is the hatred of Christians as all-pervading as the hatred of Israel and Jews?

We can’t bring ourselves to watch the videos of the deeds, but when the waters of the sea run red with their blood, there is no doubt that some heinous monstrosity has just taken place. These people; men, women AND children, including babies, are beinging hacked asunder for the simple fact that they are Christian or Jew.

One does wonder why The Almighty permits such evil to proceed, but most times, we seldom go deep enough. Many of the men slaughtered on the beach were saying with their last breath, “Jesus Christ is Lord!” or similar phrases, but all praised the Lord as their last words. This must be incredibly galling to the jihadists who wielded the blades. Imagine how they must feel to see someone besides themselves happy to die for their god. I’m sure they think they have the corner on the market in the “martyr” section. Although, I am afraid that suicide in the name of the moon god is not quite the same thing as preferring to give one’s life for one’s faith in God the Father, and for Jesus Christ, His Son.

Shouldn’t these people have been begging for mercy, or converting to islam to save themselves? Instead, most of them died more or less at peace, with the name of their Savior on their lips.

Try to look at this from the perspective of God the Father. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful ones…” (Ps 116:15) God doesn’t look at death like we do, which probably explains a lot, when you think of how may people die begging to be spared for “One more chance,” or in spite of the prayers and supplications of those loved ones gathered around, as our beloved friends and relatives pass on.

Indeed, death is still the great and final mystery. To know the will of God in all things is not given to us mortals. We will have to die in order to understand why God does what He does. But when I pray for the people who are suffering and dying at the hands of the jihadists, I am somehow consoled. These grisly deaths are the guaranteed sure path to eternal Life for the victims. Martyrs are God’s chosen ones. Martyrs’ blood sanctified the waves of the sea on that gruesome day, and we mustn’t forget it.

They are now praying for us in Heaven, for we have yet to be put to the test.

  • Why Were We So Blind?

Everybody knew years ago that the evangelicals who repeatedly warned us about secular humanism, values clarification, and political correctness were sweet but silly, and they were always finding Commies under the beds and crying, “Wolf!” all the time.  We just patted them on the shoulders, said, “It’s okay, the government has it all under control,” and forgot immediately what they had been trying so desperately to tell us.

When our kids started coming home from school with stories of being shamed in class for not wanting to write things about their parents in their classroom journals, or made to sit out from special events because they didn’t “conform,” when they came home and told us that there was no such thing as “right” or “wrong,” or that they had the right to divorce us, report us for spanking them, or to do whatever they wanted, we were upset and angry, but we didn’t make the connection between that and what those sweet, silly evangelicals had wrung their hands about so emphatically and tried so desperately to make us understand.

Then, before we knew it, our kids were putting condoms on cucumbers, telling us that religion was racist and  a waste of time, that sex was nothing more than recreational fun, almost like sports, and that they didn’t need our guidance because the teachers had told them they were all grown up enough to do their own thinking. And, now, here we are, watching our schools force our kids to learn about Islam, to go veiled for a week to “see how it feels,” and even go to mosques to participate in the prayers.

And now, we have a whole generation of young people (and old hippies) who hate America, hate the rights, freedoms, and privileges she provides, think Cuba and North Korea are ideal places; and who think that they are entitled to be taken care of from cradle to grave by a government that is topheavy, intrusive, abusive, and ubiquitous.  Unfortunately for us old-timers, we have been so disgusted and disappointed we have opted out of engagement in public life, willing to let somebody else do it, and we have turned our franchise over to the kids who were taught that there was no “right” or “wrong,” that all religions were equal (but that Christianity was “too judgmental”), that “government is good,” and that “only the government can take care of us.”

We are seeing in our lifetime, before any of us are even really creaky and old, the results of all the things those sweet and silly people tried to warn us about all those years ago.  Looking back and remembering the condescending way we shone them on when they tried to explain that our children’s souls were in mortal danger, and that America was teetering on the brink of disaster, we can see now how those people we treated like children were really the canaries in the coal mine.

Our schools have banned God and all Judeo-Christian moral teachings.  God is forbidden in all public areas, and any private venues that can be seen from public places.  We have stopped dealing in absolutes:  no truth, no right, no wrong.  Without God anywhere in public life, moral behavior is scorned or ignored.  “Fairness” is the new holy word of our culture, and we are reduced to toothless spectators who can only stand by and watch while the NEA foxes ravage the educational henhouses, the Call To Action coyotes steal the unchurched sheep, the borders go unguarded, we come to know our leaders are criminals, thieves, and marauders, and nothing is done about it by anyone.

If there is ever a “next time,” and I am accosted by sweet and silly evangelicals trying to tell me the wolves are in the sheepfold and slaughtering the lambs at will, I am going to pay attention.  And I hope, that even as old as I am, I am able to actually DO something about it.  And one thing is certain:  I absolutely will NOT be wasting time patting them kindly and telling them, “It’s okay! Don’t worry about it!”

I realize that I have posted several times about the warnings we received from various religious groups in the 80’s regarding the new direction that was being taken in the schools at the time, and that people are probably saying “I’ve read this stuff before. When is she going to come up with something new?”  But the fact remains that those religious groups in the 80’s saw what was happening long before the rest of us did. Why were WE so blind??

It was our “superior” attitudes at the time that made us ignore the warnings and continue to turn our parental rights over to the schools and cede our authority to the school boards until it was too late to change things back.  Our condescension allowed us to blithely look the other way while these changes were instituted and set in stone in our local schools, which, one after the other, jumped onto the public school bandwagon in order to be eligible for the bounteous brib-, er, subsidies, coming down from the Feds.

I guess I’m belatedly trying to apologize  to all my evangelical friends for waiting so long to realize that everything they warned us about has come to pass, and it’s probably too late to undo even a bit of it.  I can’t help be feel a certain amount of responsibility.  Every time I see the political mess we’ve managed to get ourselves into in the past thirty years, I realize just how RIGHT those “mine-shaft canaries” were when they risked their reputations to get the word out, and how little we cared.

I’m not an expert on the educational system in America, and it’s a good thing that I’m not, because I would probably be tempted to do at least as much as the late Paul Weyrich, or Phyllis Schlafly in terms of getting the truth into the hands of parents and voters.  But this little blogpage is all I can muster, for what it’s worth, and it’s not even a sure thing.

Seen the walls of the corridors of the local public school lately?  Seen all those cute, rhyming self-esteem/political-correctness slogans about niceness, bullies, and fairness, and not offending other faiths?  Believe me, they teach them. One of my  grandsons had to sit through the inauguration ceremonies on January 20, 2009.  I could understand it if it was something that was done at every inauguration, but these children were being taught that THIS election was historic because it elected a “Black man” to the Presidency. As if none of the OTHER inaugurations in America’s history had been important, historic, or newsworthy.   And, SECOND GRADE, for heaven’s sake??  Have you noticed the absence of classes in Civics, American History, Business, or Economics?  These things all teach about citizenship, individual responsibility, and good stewardship, while giving us a sense of being part of the history of freedom in the world.

No matter that the guest of honor at the inauguration refuses to prove his citizenship (and, thereby, his eligiblilty for the office), has left us with absolutely no history of himself beyond what he chose to write about in his memoirs, or that even without any historical facts we can see by the company he keeps that he is not only a Chicago hood but a Red-Diaper Baby, born, raised, mentored, and groomed by card-carrying, dedicated Marxists.

And, because we are so uneducated about American history, civics, and basic election rules, even many of us on the Right have, in our “White Guilt,” rushed to crown him without vetting him, without even really knowing who he is, simply because of the color of his skin.  In our desperate dash to be the generation that makes this “historic” choice, we have glossed over and ignored the kinds of details that would have made us very reluctant to put into the same place a white person with the same lack of qualification and history.

Suddenly, all those “Dissent Is Patriotic” bumper stickers are being scraped off the backs of all the Volvos, Priuses, and Saabs, and we are informed that any reluctance to agree with the new administration is racist.  I find this very interesting, don’t you?

The people in Washington we thought we could trust are doing incomprehensibly stupid, destructive things that appear designed to kick us while we are down, shortchange us, deny us representation, and persist in passing more and more repressive regulations without legislation.   The more I see, the less I understand.  Prayer seems to be the only weapon we have.

We have to stand by and watch while the democrats and the stupid RINO’s in Washington sell us down the river, mortgage our grandchildren’s future, and screw up and deliberately destroy the world’s economy beyond any sane person’s ability to comprehend.  Why in the world are they so determined to do this, and aren’t there ANY of them who understand that “bailouts” and “stimulus packages” don’t work?  How much of this abuse are the American taxpayers supposed to be able to bear?

The presstitutes push our heads back under water every time we try to come up for air, and the person whose candidacy caused this brainless, mindless destruction doesn’t even have the gonads to produce his damned birth certificate for the Supreme Court, or even his passport records.

I know that what follows may make some of you turn away, but I have no other way to put what I am about to say.  I am not afraid to admit that I am a strong Catholic Christian, and I spend a fair amount of my time in prayer (old ladies can to this.  Maybe this is why Jesus has old ladies stick around for so long…).

I believe there is a spiritual war going on.  I was reminded as I read the Bible the other night that St. Paul reminds us, “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but spiritual, to the pulling down of strongholds.”  And another Scripture verse that tells us what Jesus promised:  “You will receive POWER when the Holy Spirit falls on you.  Then you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in Judea, and throughout the whole world.” I know there are several good pray-ers among you, and I am telling you that it is time to pull down the left’s spiritual stronghold.  We should be “doing battle in the air,” as Paul reminds us.

We are Christ’s hands on the earth.  We are the mouthpieces of His Word.  The old saying goes, “Pray like it all depends on HIM, and work like it all depends on you.”  I believe we are being called.
